The Polymer Technology Group Offers High-Value Implantable Tubing and Specialty Tubing

Berkeley, CA - March 11, 2002 - The Polymer Technology Group, Inc. (PTG) now directly offers high-value implantable tubing to its medical device clients as well as specialty tubing consumers. Polyurethane tubing is an essential component to modern medical devices, and PTG offers a wide variety of tubing, including single- and multi-lumen, straight, tapered, clear, radiopaque, and colored. PTG's tubing is characterized by excellent flex life, good mechanical strength, biocompatibility, biostability, abrasion resistance, and-particularly in the case of PTG's silicone-urethane copolymers-thromboresistance. The tubing is non-leachable and sterilizable, and is available in a broad range of inner diameters and wall thicknesses to meet the specific demands of the application.

The tubing can be produced from any of PTG's high-quality polyurethanes, including Bionate® polycarbonate urethane, Elasthane™ polyether urethane, or PurSil® and CarboSil® thermoplastic silicone-urethane copolymers, to satisfy a wide range of performance criteria. Furthermore, by incorporating PTG's patented Surface-Modifying End Group™ technology into the polyurethane, tubing with unique surface properties can be fabricated without altering bulk performance properties.

The Polymer Technology Group was founded in 1989 by Robert Ward, who is a recognized pioneer in the field of biomaterials and the company's CEO. PTG specializes in the research, development, scale-up, and manufacture of new polymers, medical devices, and components. PTG's commercial product portfolio includes two of the world's most extensively tested biomaterials in clinical use today, BioSpan® segmented polyurethane and Bionate® polycarbonate urethane. In addition, PTG offers Elasthane™ polyether urethane, as well as custom-fabricated components from our patented PurSil® silicone polyether urethane and CarboSil® silicone polycarbonate urethane. PTG's 32,000 square-foot facility houses the equipment and expertise to support production-scale polymer synthesis through contract medical device manufacturing.
